Day 1 | Arrive in Phong Nha for evening safety briefing and tour preparation, overnight at local Phong Nha Hotel (D).
Day 2 | Depart Phong Nha village for the drop-off point located approximately 35km within the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. Descend into the river valley passing a minority village and trek 6km to arrive at the camp inside Hang En (B/L/D).
Day 3 | In the early morning, travel through this enormous cave to reach its jaw-dropping exit and then follow the river through the jungle to the entrance of Hang Son Doong. Descend an 80m vertical drop to emerge into the first huge passage of Hang Son Doong. Cross the underground river twice and emerge in the gigantic main tunnel. Pass the Hand of Dog to first campsite close to the first underground doline (B/L/D).
Day 4 | On this day you will pass incredibly large boulders straddled by 200m cliffs to the first doline and small jungle within the cave. Visit the Garden of Edam and camp at beach camp, one of the best campsites in the world with superb views of the jungle from the camp. Huge 250m high cliffs are visible from the camp. Flying foxes, monkeys and hornbills are often seen in this section of the cave (B/L/D).
Day 5 | Leave camp and travel deeper into the cave to reach the Great Wall of Vietnam, and depending upon water levels a boat may be required to complete this final section. Return to camp 1 near the first doline and visit a newly discovered passage with excellent examples of 300,000,000-year-old fossils (B/L/D).
Day 6 | Spend one extra night in the jungle on the way back to Phong Nhacamping at the magnificent Hang En. Enjoy an evening celebration with your porter team (B/L/D)
Day 7 | Arise early and trek back to Phong Nha. Spend the evening at local Phong Nha Hotel and enjoy a welcome back celebration party (B/L/D).Option to depart in the late evening by bus or train from Dong Hoi. Otherwise, check out the following morning (Day 8) and transfer to Dong Hoi

Q: Do I need to be very fit for this tour?
A: You do need a moderate to high level of fitness, as there is a lot of trekking involved each day. You should have some experience of trekking and camping before attempting this tour. We will turn around anyone who does not comfortably manage the first day trek of 10 km and first underground caving area.
Q. Do I need previous caving experience or abseiling to join this tour?
A: No, you do not require any experience of caving or abseiling. Some climbing is required but it is not too strenuous and at all times you will be tied to a safety line controlled by the safety guides. If you have a big fear of heights please do not attempt this tour.
Q: Do you provide travel insurance?
A: No. You must purchase your own insurance and provide us with a copy of your insurance statement upon final payment one month before departure.
Q. How can I book a place for your Son Doong tour?
A: You must send us the completed medical/fitness form and a scanned copy of your passport to secure your spot. Payment will be requested in November, 2013, once we have the final green light from local government to confirm bookings.
Q: When should I arrive/depart from Dong Hoi?
A: You should arrive on Day 1 of the tour itinerary no later than 4pm. We recommend allowing 2 extra days before any international flight as delays due to weather can sometimes occur.
Q: What are the nearest international airports?
A: There are 3 International Airports in Vietnam you can flight to: Tan Son Nhat airport (Ho Chi Minh City) - from this airport you can take domestic flight to Dong Hoi Airport by Vietnam Airlines, Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), from here you can take train or flight to Dong Hoi (Quang Binh Province), Da Nang Airport, from take private car or train to Phong Nha. Q: Do you provide transfers from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?
A: No, we only provide pickup from Dong Hoi, the nearest airport and train station to Phong Nha Village. Please arrive in Dong Hoi on the first day of your tour (Day 1). We do not book flights.
Q: Can I charge my camera whilst on the tour?
A: No. However, we can arrange for an additional porter and hire of a small generator for around $400 per group departure. Most people just bring multiple batteries.
Q: Can I wash and clean myself each day of the tour?
A: No. We have limited water supply in the cave. You are going to get dirty. We will take you to some areas to wash but please don’t expect anything fancy. This is camping in a cave! There will always be enough for water for cleaning teeth. We provide hand gel for use before meals.
Q: Are there snakes and spiders in the cave?
A: Yes. There is a small chance you will encounter snakes, spiders or leeches.
Q: What sort of clothes should I bring?
A: We recommend lightweight trekking clothing. Long trousers for trekking and caving, shorts may be worn around camp. A pair of good trekking boots and a headtorch for use around camp. We will send you a list nearer to the tour date.
Q: What would you do if someone has an accident in the cave?
A: We always carry a comprehensive first aid kit and satellite phone. We have a stretcher available in the cave. We have experience in cave rescue techniques.
